Fees AND INSURANCE

Our fee is $240 per 50 minute session (or per hour for assessments). As we provide low-cost services to agencies for people in need, we do not offer a sliding scale.

We are able to receive direct reimbursement from many insurance providers for most or all of the cost of our services (including assessments). We are an approved provider for Great West Life, Pacific Blue Cross, and Medavie Blue Cross (including for members of Veterans Affairs Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and refugees to Canada who have been approved by the Interim Federal Health Program). We also routinely provide services to First Nations and Indigenous children who receive funding through Jordan’s Principle. Please contact us to inquire.

Please note that you are responsible for paying any fees that are not directly reimbursed by your insurance provider at the time of appointment. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, cash, and personal cheques. INTERAC Flash® (debit card tap) for payments under $100 is also available. We do not accept American Express.

A retainer deposit of $500 is required to book assessments. This retainer is fully refundable with cancellations 7 or more days prior to the first appointment or before any questionnaires have been completed, whichever is first.

24 hour notice is required for changes to therapy, assessment result debrief, and consultation appointments, while a 7 day notice is required for changes to psychological assessment appointments. Clients are responsible for full payment of appointments that are missed, cancelled, or changed with less than this notice. Unattended appointments are not reimbursed by insurers and payment by clients is required.

AssessmenT

Psychological Assessments (sometimes called Psychoeducational or Psycho-educational assessments) vary in cost as they are charged according to the amount of time required to complete the assessment, which includes a comprehensive written report and a meeting to discuss the results. Dr. Duff works closely with families to ensure that the lowest possible cost is achieved. Generally speaking, for every hour of direct contact with someone for assessment, 2-3 hours of time is spent in preparation for the assessment, interpreting test results, gathering and synthesizing information, or writing a report. A typical assessment takes between 8 to 16 hours, including 2 to 10 hours of direct contact. Assessments for gifted placement typically cost $1920, while the fee for a comprehensive assessment is typically $3360 (adults are $3680 to $4080). A retainer deposit of $500 is due at the time of booking for all assessments. There is no sales tax charged on mental health services (including psycho-educational assessments) and we are able to direct-bill your insurance provider for some or all of the cost. Please contact us for an estimated cost in your specific circumstance.

THerapy & Groups

Therapy (sometimes called counselling or psychotherapy) is billed per session, with 50 minutes spent face-to-face with Dr. Duff and 10 minutes spend on chart writing and review. Most people attend one to three sessions weekly and then follow up on a monthly basis once problems become more manageable. Some difficulties require 8-15 weekly sessions of therapy before things get better. After meeting for an initial session, Dr. Duff will be able to clearly indicate how long therapy should take and what to expect. There is no sales tax charged on mental health services (including therapy) and we are able to direct-bill your insurance provider for some or all of the cost. Please contact us to book an initial session.

Groups (including the Social Skills Group) are billed $210 per 90-minute session and are led by Dr. Duff and other trained and supervised clinic staff. All groups are structured (rather than drop-in) and require attendance for the entire course, which is typically 10 sessions. A $500 retainer deposit is payable upon enrolment to the group, with the per-session fee billed after attendance each week.
